Doug Wright
Clinical Assistant

Doug has been at UCSF for over 25 years, has many contacts, and is a great asset to our practice. He registers all new patients for Dr. Wade Smith, Dr. Nerissa Ko, and Dr. Anthony Kim. He also schedules all new patient appointments and obtains insurance authorizations for these doctors. After you have been evaluated in our clinic, if any follow up studies or procedures are needed, Doug will guide you through and/or take care of this for you.

Vanessa Rodriguez
Medical Assistant/Clinical Assistant

Vanessa is our resident insurance expert and can register all new patients. She works with Drs. Andy Josephson, Anthony Kim, Sharon Poisson, and the Fellows. After you have been evaluated in our clinic, if any followup studies or procedures are needed, Vanessa can guide you.

Caroline Morris, RN
Service Nurse

Caroline has been at UCSF for over 30 years and is our bridge between inpatient and outpatient services. She is a neurocritical care nurse who rounds daily with our doctors for each patient admitted to our service. When patients are discharged, she arranges follow-up visits and educates them on their personal situations. In addition to that, she has taken the time to do her own research and created a comprehensive stroke education packet to help patients and family members recall what to do. She truly goes above and beyond to provide the best care possible. She is also heavily involved in teaching the incoming student nurses on all aspects of care, but in particular patient education.

Buffy Hespelt, MPA
Practice Manager

Buffy (her real name) works with the doctors, nurses, clinical assistants, and other sub-specialties in the Department of Neurology to help expedite any problems that might arise. She can also easily clarify the sometimes confusing aspects of the healthcare field. It is her goal to provide patients the best experience and continuity of care as is possible.
